Therfore it would be a suitable name for a vessel that primarily is concerned with terrestrial combat - Orion Assault Carrier. Stalingrad is the site of a vicious ground warfare between the USSR and Nazi Germany in WWII. It is named after a famous naval battle and is generally a naval engagement only vessel. It's not much of a valid point but in support of this idea, we know that the UNSC Trafalgar was able to refit Frigates and had a large naval fighter contigent. He would also have (presumably) the base building tech and heavy engineering equipment that would be required for retrieving forerunner tech (the supposed reason for them going to Onyx). However if the UNSC Stalingrad was an Orion class assault carrier, it would leave the destroyers and cruiser free to deal with covenant fleet assets whilst being able to deploy significant ground forces quickly. Without any Charon class Frigates that could land and deploy directly he would have been severely limited in force deployment options, given that non of his ships were known to be capable of in atmosphere flight. One 'Carrier' acting as flagship - UNSC StalingradĪs he was likely going to be involved in ground operations, he would need a way to commit considerable ground forces with haste. As you know Halo Fleet Battles is getting two new ships this month, the RCS cruiser (the one that gets dammed by infinity in Spartan Ops opening cutscene) a the Orion Class Assault Carrier.
