"To Lord Hood at FLEETCOM requesting a large military force to be sent, explaining that the forerunner technology here might turn the tide of the war." After receiving Cortanas message about the Covenant and Flood threat en route to Earth, Halsey adds the following information: We are told that the message Halsey sends to FLEETCOM is as follows: There may be other classes of carrier that we have yet to be formally introduced to, the Orion class being the latest. True it could be an Epoch or (whatever the UNSC Atlas) carrier type was, but it is unlikely to be a Punic.

Therfore it would be a suitable name for a vessel that primarily is concerned with terrestrial combat - Orion Assault Carrier. Stalingrad is the site of a vicious ground warfare between the USSR and Nazi Germany in WWII. It is named after a famous naval battle and is generally a naval engagement only vessel. It's not much of a valid point but in support of this idea, we know that the UNSC Trafalgar was able to refit Frigates and had a large naval fighter contigent. He would also have (presumably) the base building tech and heavy engineering equipment that would be required for retrieving forerunner tech (the supposed reason for them going to Onyx). However if the UNSC Stalingrad was an Orion class assault carrier, it would leave the destroyers and cruiser free to deal with covenant fleet assets whilst being able to deploy significant ground forces quickly. Without any Charon class Frigates that could land and deploy directly he would have been severely limited in force deployment options, given that non of his ships were known to be capable of in atmosphere flight. One 'Carrier' acting as flagship - UNSC StalingradĪs he was likely going to be involved in ground operations, he would need a way to commit considerable ground forces with haste. Rereading Ghosts of Onyx, Admiral Patterson arrives to rescue/retrieve UNSC personnel and forerunner tech with a small fleet consisting of: I was wondering if this new carrier may have appeared in the levels somewhere (similar to how the UNSC Trafalgar existed in text form, but it wasn't until the Punic Supercarrier was introduced to HFB that we got to 'see' it. We are told that most were destroyed during the defence of the outer colonies, but some had been pulled back to act as command ships in long range interdiction fleets. It's is stated to be a holdover from the Insurrection, a carrier with extended ground support capabilities (seemingly similar in ability to the Spirit of Fire from Halo Wars). From what we know this is a new ship that hasn't been seen in other media before. As you know Halo Fleet Battles is getting two new ships this month, the RCS cruiser (the one that gets dammed by infinity in Spartan Ops opening cutscene) a the Orion Class Assault Carrier.
